Keep your tractor up and running with these tips

Proper maintenance of a tractor adds many years to its life. However, maintaining a tractor is different from maintaining other vehicles. Considering the availability of different make and models of tractor, it is important to follow the right approach to keep your machine up and running.

Here are a few tips that can help you with maintenance of your tractor.

Protect from harsh weather conditions

The harsh winters can be a threat to proper functioning of a tractor. Wet weather can lead to multiple problems, thus it is wise to store the tractor in a garage, shed, or outbuilding on the farm. Even if you cannot park your tractor in any of these places, make sure to keep the rain off the mechanical system as well as other mechanical parts.

Check fluids regularly

The use of a tractor is measured in hours, not miles, so the number of hours for which you have used your tractor might be deceptive. Check for the leaks, and if you find any, investigate the matter in detail since the cause might be serious. Check the engine oil, hydraulic oil, coolant in the radiator, transmission fluid as well as the battery electrolyte.

Check tyre inflation

It is not always easy to notice the tractors with low tyre inflation. Rear tractor tyres usually have between 12 and 20 PSI while the front tyres can have up to 32 PSI. Make sure that the back tyres are filled with ballast, especially when a job, which requires maximum traction, is being performed.

Check belts and hoses

Tractors with a hydraulic system have high pressure hoses and tubing. If the fluid fails to flow, it can lead to serious consequences such as damage to the tractor, loss of steering, and more. If the belt or hose is damaged, cracked, or worn, replacing the same is all you need to do. In case of leaky connection, you can tighten them with a wrench or replace the seals.

Check the filters regularly

A large number of new tractors come with filters that offer protection against dirt, water, and other items that result in failure of a farming equipment. Look for the signs of built up water in your fuel filter. Many diesel engines are equipped with a water separating filter as diesel fuel attracts moisture. Considering that the tractors are often operated in dusky conditions, and the filters can get clogged up, it is important to clean the filters daily or weekly. In cases when you are unable to clean the filters, it is advisable to replace them.

Check the battery

Check the electrolyte level in the battery, and any other possible battery damage. If the electrolyte level is not high enough, refill the same with distilled water since lower level can lead to battery corrosion.

To ensure that you have a powerful tractor running on the farm, relying on the best tractor dealer India alone to purchase the best option is not sufficient. Regular maintenance is equally important and must not be overlooked to ascertain that the tractor serves you for many years to come.
